PHOTO 1:

Liquid clay, called slip, is poured into a plaster mold bound tightly with rubber bands to prevent leakage.

PHOTO 2:

The plaster draws moisture away from the slip which causes a solid clay shell to form around the inside of the mold.

PHOTO 3:

After the shell has reached a desired thickness, the excess slip is poured back into the slip tank. The mold is placed upside down to allow the extra slip to drain. It will sit for approximately 24 hours while the plaster continues to draw moisture from the shell. When firm enough, the shell inside will be released from the mold.
